Carpe Diem, bionde child 2012, by Margherita Arrighi

2012 Carpe Diem – 30 x 40cm on canvas

Carpe Diem is my first painting with a big-eyed girl. In this case she is still afraid and disappointed by the world, however, she has in her heart so much desire to grow and dive into new experiences.

This picture helps you to understand that there will always be moments a bit ‘more sad, but not for this reason you’ll give up…! Always catch the moment because there will always be the way to find the light after dark…!!!

I did not realize, (when I painted it in 2012) that in a few years I would have discovered an imaginary world of ever more serene girls eager to share Hope. At that time I knew what it meant Law of Attraction, but in a practical sense I had only touched the negative effects of this infallible law.

I was sad and disappointed more by myself than by the people around me, and I saw everything black. I was beginning to understand that if I had the courage to change, then everything around me would change. I still didn’t know the precious value of images to project ourselves into our own future and I was not yet fully aware that if a painting causes emotions inside heart, this picture can change people’s who observe it every day. But I went ahead blindly anyway.

I was looking for my own technique and I realized I hated every kind of imposition. I loved to dirty canvas with the thought instead of only lines and perfect colors. I understood immediately that what gave me joy was Mixed Media: a technique with use of matter, stamps, pastels, acrylic colors and oil colors without a precise rule. It was also a way to recycle old things or seal memories forever.

Mixed media technique also spans the digital world.  I found the image above in the Instagram profile @dhmtextile which focuses their attention on beautiful fabrics that I photographed and edited on Photoshop.

Margherita Arrighi
